New Orleans Wastewater to Wetlands – In March 2013, FTT delivered an Fe70 Ferrator to the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans for the disinfection and reuse of its municipal wastewater. The City intends to divert Ferrate-treated water to restore up to 30,000 acres of surrounding wetlands in the Bienville Bayou. The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, Department of Environmental Quality, and U.S. EPA have supervised a three-year feasibility study led by local consulting engineering firm Waldemar S. Nelson and Company and Tulane University. This study compared Ferrate, Ozone, UV, Bleach, and on-site hypochlorite generation. Ferrate treatment was found to be the least cost, and most effective treatment alternative. Phase I site improvements have been completed. Phase II should begin soon. Environmental Remediation – An Fe300 Ferrator was purchased and operated at Lake Apopka to remove phosphorus and ammonia from a dredging operation designed to rehabilitate the lake. This test was extremely successful.  Ferrate treatment was able to remove phosphorus, ammonia, total nitrogen, antimony, arsenic, barium, beryllium, boron, cadmium, lead, mercury, molybdenum, nickel, selenium, silver, thallium, and zinc.  Click Here To View The Background Video About The Project (Ferrator Model Fe300 shown in picture)



Global Ballast Water Treatment – In September 2012, FTT published its final NOAA report, Ferrate Treatment System Full-Scale Controlled Test on Horizon Lines ship PRODUCER. The Ballast Ferrator was easily installed in the ship’s cargo hold, and the report conclusively demonstrated Ferrate’s ability to treat ballast water for invasive micro and macro organisms. FTT demonstrated mortality of microorganisms during a pilot Ferrate Ballast Water Treatment System test on Horizon Producer in June 2012.  Ferrate was able to kill Total coliform, E. coli, enterococcus, and zooplankton with a dose of only 4ppm.  Due to the success of this test, FTT sold an Fe50 Ferrator to a Singapore-based company to start sales for this market, subject to the passage of the IMO’s ballast water convention. Hog Farm Treatment –Currently, most swine waste is treated as a liquid in earthen containment structures called lagoons, in which bacteria break down the waste aerobically. The treated effluent from the lagoons is then sprayed onto field crops that use the nutrients contained in the effluent.  Treatment of livestock waste is a controversial subject in several states. Waste from large hog and poultry farms has been blamed for polluting surface waters, contaminating wells, creating noxious odors, and discharging ammonia into the air. Treatment and disposal of the waste costs farmers tens of millions of dollars each year. As a part of the EPA Nutrient Reduction Criteria Program, virtually all livestock production operations in the US are facing regulatory pressure to eliminate livestock waste holding areas and to provide continuous water treatment for all liquid wastes. Initial trials led to a sale of an Fe10 Ferrator at a large midwest hog farm.  Ferrate technology will be part of a larger project to demonstrate “State of the Art” technologies for the cleaning up of these liquid wastes. This project is an excellent opportunity to break into this new market, and time critical for pressured customers.



Oil & Gas Treatment – An innovative treatment process developer that purifies contaminated groundwater from oil and gas production, and construction and industrial sites as well as offers proprietary tech that remediates soils contaminated with hydrocarbons. FTT shipped their first Fe5 Ferrator that was combined with two Boss oily-water separators into a treatment train integrated onto single skid.  This company is now planning for future Ferrators in Ireland and the U.K. (Custom Ferrator Fe5i Installation shown in picture)







People in Need – FTT has also collaborated with a major Foundation. After a two-year global search for the most effective disinfection technology, the Foundation selected Ferrate to treat waterborne pathogens, which kill millions of people each year; most are children under age five. FTT was contracted to first design and then build a low cost prototype and pre-production Fe5 Ferrator models.






Frac Water Treatment – FTT contributed its technology and know-how to an oil field services provider to investigate Ferrate chemistry and build a mobile Ferrator system to treat flow-back waters produced in the hydraulic fracturing of shale gas formations. This is a significant market and growth opportunity for FTT. The U.S. Energy Information Agency, (EIA) projects shale gas production to grow 113% between 2011 and 2040. E1GS developed a treatment system and tested wastewaters from the Marcellus, Bakkan, Eagleford, and Barnett shale plays achieving competitive treatment costs ranging from $2.75 to $4.50 per barrel; depending upon shale location, contaminant loadings, and treatment requirements. We are currently working with demonstration partners and seeking additional funding to commercialize this technology. (Ferrator Model Fe150 shown in picture)


Municipal Water Treatment, Mexico – Commercial efforts accelerated after the PRI party resumed control of Federal and Municipal governments in January 2013. A key government certification authorizing Ferrate’s use in municipal water treatment applications has been obtained. Pilots and full-scale demonstrations are being organized in 5 cities: Santiago de Queretaro, Puebla, Huixquilucan, Tlanepantla, and Mexico City to pave the way for sales.
